October 2023 Edition

Happening Now - Patient Safety Week

Canadian Patient Safety Week is October 23rd-27th. This year’s theme is Small Changes. Big impact. Safer Care.

Even small things can have a big impact when it comes to safer care. Small things like asking questions, engaging in discussions, and proactively taking action.

If you're at ACH, be sure to check out the interactive activities with some fun prizes in the cafeteria!

Congratulations to PEAS - HQCA Patient Experience Award

On October 12th, representatives from the Health Quality Council of Alberta (HQCA) presented the Pediatric Eating and Swallowing (PEAS) project with a 2023 Patient Experience Award. The Patient Experience Awards celebrate and help spread knowledge about projects or programs that improve the patient experience in accessing and receiving healthcare services.

Pediatric Eating And Swallowing (PEAS) is a quality improvement initiative to standardize services and improve care for children with a pediatric feeding disorder (PFD) in Alberta. The PEAS mission is to capture the spirit and harness the power of collaboration to enhance and standardize interdisciplinary practice in the area of eating, feeding and swallowing, in order to attain the best outcomes for our patients and their families.

Many thanks to our group of advisors who provided important input and feedback to this project!

Check out the HQCA video about PEAS.

Enter the PFCC Week Team Challenge

Get involved by getting a team together and planning your entry into the PFCC Week 2023 Team Challenge. Your challenge is to create a visual representation of the theme using the object provided. This year, we have a wood circle to fit with our theme of 'partnership makes a world of difference".

Your team needs to be three or more people from your service area/unit/clinic or from across the site. We provide the wood circle - you provide the decorating supplies and your creative talent. All entries will be displayed during PFCC Week with a prize and trophy going to the top three teams.
