December 2020 Edition Your PFCC Newsletter is Back! 2020 hasn't been a year any of us would have expected. For the Patient and Family Centred Care Team it's been extra challenging with a number of personal leaves throughout the year. But we're all back and working hard to move forward patient and family centred care and patient and family engagement at the Alberta Children's Hospital. We're reviving our newsletter so we can keep you up to date on all the great PFCC happenings at ACH. PFCC Week 2020 Staff Champions PFCC Week was a quiet event this year due to COVID-19 and its restrictions. We were still able to virtually celebrate staff champions nominated by patient and family members. Here's a few of those nominations and some of the words from their nominees: Kathryn Davis Nurse, Respiratory Clinic You have always found a solution to my problem. You also hear and comfort me. Thank-you! Dr. Steven Greenway Cardiology As first-time parents, with a heart baby, we didn't really know what to expect and Dr Greenway always put our mind at ease. He is gentle, soft-spoken, kind and so patient in answering all of our questions. He is so good with our son. We feel that he always listens and takes ?time for us. Dr. JP Appendino and Tammy Still, RN - Pediatric Neurology An incredible team of knowledge, amazing bedside manner, and patience. They BOTH have answered a barrage of questions from me and never once were impatient. When we were hospitalized, every day Dr. Appendino came to the room to sit and explain findings then kept prompting us for more questions even though he was so busy. And Tammy has been my lifeline for helping my child while I am at home. Returning messages promptly and thoroughly even though she is so busy too! Photo of Dr. JP Appendino Dr. Harvey Sarnat and Dr. Laura Flores-Sarnat - Pediatric Neurology They have followed my child for years and have always made us feel safe and cared for. They are both great at explaining things and patient with questions. Dr. Laura offers a nurturing side that I have seen like no other physician in all my years! Added is when my child fell more ill they knew when to hand over the reins to someone more experienced in the area. Thank-you! Pixperience Stories from CAYAC For PFCC Week, CAYAC members created stories of what PFCC means to them. These stories share how the actions of healthcare professionals made a difference to their experiences as patients and siblings of patients. Click here to see all of the stories. Our Advisory Councils are Still Meeting Online We have adapted to the current realities. Both the Family Advisory Council and CAYAC (the Child and Youth Advisory Council) are holding their regular meetings online.
