Alberta Children's Hospital
November 18 to 22, 2024You are invited to participate in Alberta Children's Hospital 13th annual Patient and Family Centred Care (PFCC) week to help raise awareness, promote action and celebrate the great work being done within the hospital.
The theme this year is Connecting Through Shared Commitments.
PFCC Week will kickoff with a launch party at noon on Monday, November 18th. Come to the cafeteria to check out the displays, hear music from a choir of the New West Symphony, and enjoy some cake!
Piano Hour will be hosted on Wednesday, November 20th from noon to 1:00pm in the cafeteria. Feel free to stop by and enjoy the tunes.

Check out the displays and activities in hospital’s main gathering space (cafeteria) Monday through Friday.
Families, staff, and physicians are encouraged to answer our interactive question “What do you commit to?”. Write on a speech bubble to help fill our display with colour and energy! Tell us which shared commitments are important to you. How would you describe the experience of connecting through shared commitments with patients, families, with healthcare providers. We want to make the Shared Commitments display overflow with colour, learning, and ideas!
Take time to reflect on Shared Commitments by viewing the entries into this year’s team challenge and vote for your favourite. The winners will be announced at Friday’s celebration.
Team Challenge
Organize a team of 3 or more to decorate a blank wooden speech bubble in the theme of Shared Commitments. Teams can be made up of colleagues from the same service/clinic/unit or a hybrid of different colleagues across the hospital.
We supply the wooden speech bubble, and you provide a dose of creativity and your own decorating supplies.
To request a speech bubble, submit this online form.
All entries will need to be delivered to the FCRC by Tuesday, November 12th, 2024 and will be on display during PFCC Week.
The top three entries will be selected by popular vote (50%) and judges selection (50%). Winner will be announced at the PFCC Week Celebration on Friday.

October 3 to 8, 2022Alberta Children's Hospital 11th Annual Patient and Family Centred Care (PFCC) week - to help raise awareness, promote action and celebrate the great work being done within the hospital.
The theme this year was Journeying Together, in celebration of Alberta Children’s Hospital turning 100.
Alberta Children’s Hospital has a long-standing history of patient and family centred care practices, starting at the first pediatric orthopedic hospital in 1922. We looked back on the history and evolution of patient and family centred care.

Team Challenge
The challenge was to organize a team of 3 or more to decorate a blank suitcase in the theme of Journeying Together. Teams could be made up of colleagues from the same service/clinic/unit or a hybrid of different colleagues across the hospital.
We supplied the cardboard suitcase and you provided a dose of creativity and your own decorating supplies.

Patient & Family Centred Care is our North Star
October 4 - 8, 2021You are invited to participate in Alberta Children's Hospital 10th Annual Patient and Family Centred Care (PFCC) week. PFCC Week is an opportunity to increase awareness of the value of PFCC, celebrate how we practice PFCC each and every day at Alberta Children’s Hospital, and consider how, with PFCC as our north star, we can further embed the principles and practices of PFCC into our work and how we care for patients and families.
Patient & Family Centred Care is “an approach to the planning, delivery, and evaluation of health care that is grounded in mutually beneficial partnerships among health care providers, patients, and families. It redefines the relationships in health care by placing an emphasis on collaborating with people of all ages, at all levels of care, and in all health care settings.” (Institute for Patient-and Family-Centered Care).
PFCC is associated with improved patient outcomes, improved patient experience, improved staff experience, and reduced costs.

Alberta Children's Hospital
November 2nd to 5th, 2020You are invited to participate in Alberta Children's Hospital (ACH) 9th annual Patient and Family Centred Care (PFCC) Week. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic we are having to limit our normal PFCC Week activities and events for the safety of patients, families, and staff at ACH. As a result, this year we will be focusing on recognizing and supporting ACH, Child Development Centre, and Rotary Flames staff (clinical or non-clinical), physicians, and volunteers.
We are looking for patients and families to think of those little moments when someone's kindness and/or action made a difference for your family in the last few months. Alternatively, patients and families can provide words of encouragement and support given these tough times in healthcare. In past years, these submissions from patients and families have warmed the hearts of all those that have received them.
During PFCC Week, individuals will be sent a PFCC Week 2020 - Thank You printable e-card through the ACH PFCC team.
To submit your message of support, either fill out the nomination form or email us with the information to achpfcc@ahs.ca. You are more than welcome to submit more than one message of support.
