September 2026 Edition

National Day for Truth and Reconcilation

Earlier this month, the Family and Community Resource Centre team had the honour to gather alongside others in the Alberta Children's Hospital (ACH) Healing Garden.

Joelene Whitney, a Traditional Wellness Coordinator, came to provide education and guidance to staff around the traditional responsibilities involved in caring for and cultivating the Healing Garden.

Sage was harvested to replenish the hospital's smudging kits. This year's harvest was especially abundant, helping support access to traditional Indigenous healing practices at ACH for patients, families, and staff.

September 30th is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and at the Alberta Children’s Hospital, we are committed to listening, learning, and walking together toward reconciliation in meaningful ways.

We invite you to explore the many opportunities available throughout the month of September to learn and reflect as we approach the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

  • Find events, learning resources, and ways to support Indigenous health equity across Alberta. 2026 Embracing Cultural Safety – Together4Health
  • Attend in person or online as Elder Dr. Elmer Ghostkeeper leads a teaching followed by a Reflection Circle exercise at the University of Alberta Hospital.  2026 National Day for Truth and Reconciliation - Keynote Event
  • Please see the poster below for an opportunity at ACH on Tuesday, September 29th from 12-1pm. All are welcome to learn and grow in our understanding of how we can walk together toward reconciliation.

This month, and every month, let's honour the wisdom of Indigenous voices, past and present—and commit to providing culturally safe care.

PFCC Week 2026 - Team Challenge

Patient and Family Centred Care (PFCC) Week is happening from October 16th to 22nd. This year’s theme is “Building Exceptional Care Together”.

Once again, the PFCC team is hosting the PFCC Week Team Challenge and are hoping you will join in!

Get involved now by getting a team together and planning your entry. Your challenge is to create a visual representation of the theme using the objects provided. This year, we are providing an 11”x14” foam core board and a bag of building blocks with which to create your entry to fit with our theme of “Building Exceptional Care Together”.

We provide the base and starter materials, you provide any additional decorating supplies and your creative talent!

All entries will be displayed during PFCC Week, with certificates of recognition for the top three teams and a gift card prize for first place. Winners will be announced at the PFCC Celebration event on Thursday, October 22nd.

Pride Fair - Kindness and Inclusivity at ACH

The main gathering area at ACH was bustling with activity for the 2026 ACH Pride Fair on August 27th.

Staff, patients, and families were invited to reflect on kindness and inclusivity through creating Kindness Kards, doing crafts, and learning about relevant programs and services. Participants had fun getting glitter tattoos, visiting with the PALs Ambassadors, and taking their photos at the photo booth.

A heartfelt thank you to the teams who brought this project to life, and to everyone who joined us in celebrating inclusion and kindness at our hospital.
