Finding a Family Doctor
Many of you may be seeing a pediatrician, a doctor who cares for children. When you turn 18, this will change. You will see a family doctor instead. If you don't have a family doctor, it can take a while to find one. It's a good idea to start looking now!
Some places to start:
- The Alberta College of Physicians & Surgeons has a tool called Physician Search to help you find family doctors available in your area.
- Find a Doctor using the PCN (Primary Care Networks) website.
- Health Link also keeps a list of family doctors in Calgary and area who are accepting new patients. Contact them by dialling 8-1-1.
- Ask family and friends if their family doctor is taking new patients. Some family doctors will accept members of the same family as patients.
A family doctor may want to talk to you about your health needs, before deciding to take you as a patient.
