Welcome to the December edition of Together We're Better.
We're keeping it short as we know you're likely focused on other things this month!
Highlights from 2013
As 2013 comes to an end, we want to thank both family and staff for encouraging Patient and Family Centred Care at the Alberta Children's Hospital this year. We know that this happens in many ways throughout the hospital, especially in your day to day interactions with each other.
System wide, there have been many efforts to encourage and promote Patient and Family Centred Care throughout the hospital. Highlights for 2013 include:
- production of Together We're Better - a video highlighting Patient and Family Centred Care at ACH
- completion of Parents as Partners Tip Sheets that provide parents (and caregivers) with strategies for partnering with their healthcare team
- celebration of the Child and Youth Advisory Council's 10th year
- creation of a Patient and Family Centred Care monthly e-newsletter
- celebration of the second annual Patient and Family Centred Care Week
- initiation of the Family Bedside Orientation pilot
It has been a great year. We're looking forward to more exciting initiatives in 2014!
THANK YOU to the Alberta Children's Hospital Foundation (ACHF). On December 5th the annual Candy Cane Gala was focused on Family Centred Care! We appreciate all the support ACHF provides our hospital to make it such a special place for children and their families. More to come on this in the New Year!

Family Centred Care Rounds
Join us for a conversation on Patient and Family Centred Care with Trish Loeb, Clinical Nurse Educator NICU and Lia Lousier, Parent of an NICU/PICU patient.
These Rounds feature digital stories and explore the experience of a staff and a family. Personal experience and perspectives shared by the story tellers and speakers help us to be critically reflective about our own experiences and thoughtful about the real practice of Family Centred Care.
Staff and family members are encouraged to attend. No sign-up is required.
